M, This is one of Schubert's more "operatic" Lied, don't you think? If this is true, then the orchestration would seem more appropriate. I was not familiar with the song before hearing your post. This is just a random opinion. In any case, the voice really is the point here - for me at least. Thanks again :-)

I find this this voice unique. It has a satisfying rumble and intensity like no other. The last note here gives me goose bumps. I was thinking to upload it myself, Martin, but I'm glad you got in ahead of me.

I find it difficult to say if Lieder should be sung like this. I'm not sure what Schubert would have thought to the Wagnerian orchestration!
Weren't his Lieder meant to be sung by friends in an intimate circle, a glass of wine in the hand?

@1401JSC I wrote: "... sung like this" not "... accompanied like this."
In this case, however, I think the orchestration works well, too. Whereas I usually don't like it.
