Suburbia turns sinister for the Benson family. Laura Benson, her husband Jim and their fifteen-year-old daughter Erin, live in a beautiful home with their beloved dog, Fred. One night while Jim is away on business, their family life is shattered when two robbers invade their home, terrorizing Laura and Erin and killing Fred before disappearing into the darkness. Although Erin quickly recovers from the nightmarish experience, Laura continues to suffer from vivid flashbacks of the fateful night. Seeking a fresh start, the Bensons move to the idyllic gated community of Arbor Eden.

At first glance Arbor Eden is just what the doctor ordered: beautiful homes behind a guarded gate. But with the appearance of the gregarious next-door neighbour Janis Rivers and her shy fifteen-year-old daughter Jenny, the Bensons are about to discover that things aren't always what they appear. While soccer enthusiasts Erin and Jenny become fast friends, Laura quickly senses that something is "not quite right" with Janis. Laura's suspicions are further aroused when Janis demands that Erin decline her place on the soccer team so that Jenny, who didn't make the grade, can taker her place.
