Through decades, Alexander Courage made many orchestral arrangements and orchestrations for Jerry Goldsmith, who scored the first ST movie and some more. They were friends.
The music is by Alexander Courage, who did the music only for the original pilot, The Cage, but much of this music was used throughout classic Star Trek. Gene Roddenberry wrote lyrics to Courage's Star Trek theme which really ticked him off, because then Roddenberry claimed a credit as a co-writer of the song, and took royalties which were due to Mr. Courage. He never wrote any more music for the Star Trek series, but did write some cues for Star Trek the Motion Picture. He died on May 15, 2008.
