On November 19, 2010, the Partnership for After School Education held its Third Annual Janet Kelley Lecture in honor of founding Executive Director Janet Kelley. The speaker for this year's lecture was Dr. Pedro Noguera, the Peter L. Agnew Professor of Education at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education & Development, and the Executive Director of the Metropolitan Center for Urban Education at New York University. Dr. Noguera's speech focused on child development, education reform, and the five guiding principles he feels should be the basis of any form of education, namely that learning should be active, collaborative, meaningful, support mastery, and expand horizons.
