This timelapse uses false colour infrared imagery from JMA's MTSAT geostationary satellite & radar data from the Australia BoM to track the path of the Tropical Cyclone Yasi from when it forms until after it has impacted the Queensland Coast, and moved inland dissipating.

  • Before this happened, I had never heard of a cyclone making it all the way to Mt. Isa.

  • isn't so that when the TRS goes over land, it dies?

  • im watching this vid for some of my homework and its really cool and sad about how mush damadge it caused

  • I was in townsville and got battered for 14 hours... I would have shit my pants being at mission beach.

  • I am so glad I'd stopped watching the radar imagery well before Yasi made landfall. It was bad enough, here at Mission Beach, knowing that no matter where it eventually crossed it would impact on us but to actually watch it accelerate and ramp up like that!!! Holy Crap! I wonder when someone will upload footage from the eye? Now that was a surreal experience. One Cat 5 is one too many for my shattered nerves, house, community and environment

  • It looks impressive but it wasn't too impressive to be in, it was actually quite terrifying.

I live in Innisfail, Nth QLD, Australia

  • At the end, you can see that heat wave hitting Sydney and then the cool change.

  • Even right at the end there still seems to be cloud moving in a swirling pattern in the lower NT or upper SA. Has it completely dissipated now or is there still some of that swirling cloud about. Also that rain over Vic. Was that still remnants of TC Anthony or had some normal rain from the south been caught up by the effects of Yasi?

  • The interesting bit is at 0:26 where Willis Is. gets knocked out...
