Antisemitism is nothing new in western civilization, and it isn't always directed against Jews.
The semitic or middle-eastern world was long seen as an alien, "Eastern" place, and this goes back to the Greco-Persian wars and the struggle between Rome and Carthage.
Does this sound familiar?
http://www.thenagain.info/webchron/mediterranean/Herodotus.html
"The theme of The Histories is the struggle between The East and The West. The East, represented by the Persian Empire, signifies tyranny and oppression. The West, represented by the Greek city-states, signifies freedom. Thus as Herodotus interprets the Persian Wars we have the beginnings of Western Civilization and the association of that tradition with freedom."

@IshayuG You're never going to have one set of ethics for all--that's like forcing everyone to have the same religion. It does not matter if we are the same species, it's never going to happen, it can't happen.

@IshayuG "So your point is you cannot discuss with people with a different set of ideas and reach a concensus?"
I didn't say that at all. What I said is that we aren't going to get anywhere by asking (or forcing) people not to do what they sincerely think is the right thing to do. Debate and engagement are the only way, and nobody listens to people who tell them they are Just Plain Wrong.
PS: I wouldn't waste a second of your time for the world. All the best!

@Anekantavad So your point is you cannot discuss with people with a different set of ideas and reach a concensus?
I believe in one set of ethics for all, because we are one species; we find the same set of problems painful. Spread it via discussion.
Unlike you, which makes you impossible to debate as I suspected. We're done. I'm not wasing any more time.
There is no "my truth" and "your truth". There is "the truth". But you gotta be a grown up to understand and debate it...

@IshayuG "Female genital mutilation, for example, is objectively an unethical thing to do, but millions of women all across the world have it done to their children because they think they are doing the right thing."
In other words, they believe it to be ethical.
You may think I am playing with semantics, but the problem as I see it is that we have two sets of people with differing ideas as to what constitutes "ethical". This sort of thing is not so easily solved, and that's my point.

@Anekantavad Yes I do consider it unethical, educate them. Refer to my plethora of previous comments in this conversation regarding that. Female genital mutilation, for example, is objectively an unethical thing to do, but millions of women all across the world have it done to their children because they think they are doing the right thing. Does that make it ethical?
I am tired of playing a game of meaningless semantics. Could you bring an argument rooted in reality for once?

@IshayuG "Yes, if they are telling you stuff they can't varify they are doing something unethical."
So, is it safe for me to conclude that you believe one can act unethically, even though one's intent is to be as ethical as possible?
Again, you see where this is going?
You may think I am going around in circles here, but would it surprise you if I felt the same way as you do?
:-)

@Anekantavad Yes, if they are telling you stuff they can't varify they are doing something unethical. I also not 24 hours ago told you specifically that I rejected virtually everything my parents told me and made up my own mind which incidentally differs vastly from theirs. You are impossible to debate in 500-letter columns because you only counter arguments in the context of themselves and not the others that have been made during the same conversation!

I read somewhere that Jews and Arabs are genetically very similar. I think they are both semitic peoples according to some classifications.
I've probably had about 30% good 70%bad experiences with jews. I even had a Jewish landlord steal money from me when i was a broke student. Then i found out he'd done the same to other tenants.
Most of the arabs I've encountered in my country have left a bad impression on me. 95% negative. They seem to be quick to anger and selfish. That's my 2c.

@IshayuG "Brainwashing is systematically using unethical METHODS to persuade"
So, if a parent teaches their kids what s/he honestly believes to be the truth, it could still be brainwashing?
You do realize where this lands us (again), don't you?
