if I'm not mistaken, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy (Cross Rumble) is a remake of Ace Combat 2. Also, mission 2 on it looks a lot like this just to prove it

@Shack11 I like both, actually. Hawx is fun from the standpoint a better selection of planes. It's similar to AC aside from the off mode (which I don't like from a control standpoint. save for very quick moves that basic make you stand still and let whoever's chasing you blow by like you weren't even there.) A.C. is better in that it makes you think a little more, since you don't have that magical turn on a dime button. though both of them are really utterly unrealistic.

H.A.W.X. replaced Ace Combat for you? Are you fucking serious? H.A.W.X. is absolute garbage, not to mention a complete knock-off of Ace Combat. To like it better than Ace Combat says a lot about you. I know it might seem as if I'm getting too worked up about this, but that's like saying "I couldn't wait long enough for my steak to finish cooking, so I had a greasy burger."
