Pauliina Lerche is one of the many Finnish folk musicians who have their roots in the small North Karelian village of Rääkkylä near the Russian border. Her musical career began in the original line-up of the most famous of the folk bands stemming from this small village, Värttinä, but she had early on found the musical direction she wanted to pursue. Studies at the Folk Music Department of the Sibelius Academy only served to strengthen this musical vision and after graduating in 2002, she has quickly become one of the most personal ambassadors of Finnish folk music on the world music scene.

Pauliina is a multi-instrumentalist whose instruments include accordion, violin, kantele, deltar and her own voice. She composes, arranges and writes lyrics for her own material in which she combines her solid background in the Karelian tradition with influences from both world and popular music.

  • That's amazing!

One minor criticism - I don't get that long repetitive section toward the end.

  • Талантливая девушка!

  • i like my music exotic and slightly unusual

    and this fits the bill

    perfectly

  • @topsamite I felt the ending was powerful, vibrationally. The slow fade-in of the kantele combined with the subtle and gradual changes on the accordion while a cyclical theme unfolds... like a spell being cast. In fact the more I listen to it, the more I'm beginning to believe it actually is some kind of old world science being applied here. A metamorphosis being imposed on its receiver(s). This Ms. Luukkainen most certainly is a fascinating creature. That kantele at the end... the joy of death.

  • simply AMAZING!♥

  • I normally have no interest in accordion music per se, but this was excellent.

  • Nicely played! She had all my attention, while listening her :o)

  • Oh boy... Not only does Pauliina sing beautifully, but how she plays as well :) This was purely outstanding
