Gm uses four frames for the full size trucks, 1500(half ton) 1500Hd has its own frame, that is heavier and thicker than the 1/2 ton frame but lighter than the 3/4 ton frame. then there is a 3/4 ton frame and a 1 ton frame. the 2500 uses its own frame, the 2500 HD uses the 1 ton frame.
1500 HD come available with semi floating axles, 6.0 liter engine, 4L80E trans, and 3.73 or 4.10 gears,
2500 comes available with the allison option and full floating one ton axles

The 2500HD is a heavier duty truck with higher payload (3/4 ton) as opposed to the 1500 series which is a 1/2 ton. What IS interesting, is in this picture it shows this truck with 8 bolt wheels. That's interesting because normally the 8 bolt wheels go on the 2500 series trucks, and the 1500 series trucks only have five bolt.
Yes, the 3.73 gear ratio is a good thing. I have 4.11 on my 2500 and THE FUEL ECONOMY IS BRUTAL!! 12-14 mpg max. (a 6L engine)

wat is the difference between the 1500 hd and the 2500 hd ?
Basically it was a marketing thing with GM
The 1500HD has no 1500 parts on it, it is closer to 3/4 ton than a 1/2 ton.
with the 1500hd you cannot liscene the truck to tow as much weight so you save on your plates/ regsitration but still have a rugged durability of the 3/4 ton.

@Silveradotex Almost like the "light duty" 2500 trucks they had.
