Sufi whirling ceremony

Many people have never and will never understand the powers and benefits of Sufi whirling (also known as sema) and this is because they haven't had that understanding put in their hearts. Therefore they, not being able to understand it, make a mockery of it. May Allah open and guide their sealed hearts.

  • I read somewhere that they try to symbolize the movement of the cosmos, the planets, the sun, moon, stars. Their head is also tilted toward the right, and their palm is facing up (right palm) and down (left palm) to symbolize the channeling of blessing from the heaven to earth.

  • music is not haram in Islam, some people need to learn before they mention this misleading concept to the rest of the world.

  • why do sufi's whirl??

  • Hmm, well Sufism tends to have a different collection of Hadiths/Sunnah to Sunni and Shia. There are some Sufi groups that have come from Shia and Sunni backgrounds, but they tend to after a while create their own unique identity.

  • I am Mevlana Sufi/Christian and i understand the whirling and it's beautiful. Our hearts will forever have the Yerning to be one with God.Our Heart forever have the Desire for love.

  • ok salaam

  • Okay brother I don't want to argue either! wow 2am it's 427 pm here in the UK. Okay brother you think it's wrong I think it's right, lets leave it there :)

  • Firstly brother this is not dancing. Music is Haram in Islam, in cases where there is no benefit in it, like hip hop. But in cases where one is trying to reach spirituality and the level where there is a connection between u and God, then the flute and things are allowed. The whirling dervishes whirl and listen to the zikr of Allah so that they may abandon this world and all the material, to reach the state of divine love...

  • not that i know of,first of all music is haram in islam and all this dancing what the heck is this, astagfirallah, this is some lost people sis,may allah guid us all
