Marcus Williams discusses Juneteenth with BT Mathis. On June 19th, 1863 the last of the slaves in Galveston, TX were informed by General Granger that they were free. This was 1.5 years after the effective date of The Emancipation Proclamation. Today celebrations go on all across the country marking this important day in African American History.
