No it is not just 5 notes it is MUCH deeper than that....were talking music theory here the two songs have the exact chord progression except for one chord in satriani's is different, also they both have the same tempo and yes the chorus sounds very familiar

There's nothing incredible about Coldplay.

And it's not just 5 notes. It's the same beat, the same chords, and the same damn refrain.

I wish all of the Coldplay fanboys would just throw their obsession with that band away and just admit they're not original. Anything Coldplay's done had been done before.

You cant compare Satriani to Coldplay. Two totally different things. Satriani is an incredible guitarist and Coldplay is an incredible alternative band. Cant we just leave it at that? And i also don't think coldplay should be condemned because they have a song containing 5 of the same notes as a satriani riff. Even chris martin did hear the song then write viva la vida, He wrote a completely different song (with original lyrics) that used 5 of the same notes. Thats influence not copying.

Joe should shave his right arm to get less drag when he's riffing, and the knuckle hair on his left hand for faster fretting....I'm no musical master but it's just something to consider = )

Yea, i wouldn't talk shit on Joe, because he helped pave the way for guitarists everywhere! Sure, i'll admit it..Cold play is ok..but they did copy Satch..plain and simple! Joe is a musical genious, and Coldplay..well lets face it..they aren't even close to what Satriani is, and thats an idol. Need i remind all of you, he taught many guiratists who have made it big! Anyone like Metallica(i don't) but he taught their guitarist! So take all this for what's its worth, but respect Joe Satriani!
