A few explanations of some of the images: The man blowing the horn is the "Watchman" - you can hear him every evening on the town square at 9.00 pm. He is of the course the one referred to in the motto that you can see on the town hall - taken from psalm 127 (I seem to recall this was originally written on a building there in Latin "Nisi Dominus custodierit civitatem: frustra vigilat qui custodit eam", but maybe my memory is playing tricks....). One of the highlights of our choir trip was, of course, trouping up to the town square to see the "man with the horn" as he was so delicately described by our choirmaster
The hand in the organ loft was used in olden days when the organist had to do all the choir-leading on his own, he would use a pedal to get the wooden hand to move and thus keep the choir in tempo... allegedly! The hand reappears at the end of the piece to "Wave goodbye": to the accompaniment of a farewell in the form of a cheeky English cadence on the guitar - referring to an in-joke between the altos in attendance on our trip....
