It is incredibly irresponsible for a show called "The Doctors" to support such nonsense as Chiropractic. It's quackery.

i choose chiropractic care? I dont think I said that. I am trying to drum up discussion while i research in my free time to determine if chiropractic care is something Id recommend. I dont know what "natural" chiropractic means. I have a real pet peeve with misuse of words for misdirective purposes.

Not to minimize the 290's demise, but you must put a denominator in there...290 died vs ____ benefitted (i.e. lives were saved). or 290 died vs ___ people taking drugs (millions). Its about risk vs benefit. Youll NEVER get adverse events out of the picture. Ill make up numbers to illustrate: 290 deaths for 5 million ON drugs = .006% chance of death. If the disease you are treating has a mortality rate of, say, 4%...benefits may outweigh the risks.

Im sorry, which part is not true? Are you defending the scientific concepts or the TV show? I understood and appreciate your scientific summary, but the wanton and nonspecific use of the word "stress" has become a buzzword with little meaning. The undifferentiated use of "stress" and "tension" is highly inappropriate for a physician educating the public.

Ah this is a similar mechanism to "rubbing an injury" like when we bump our knee and instinctively rub it. thank you for your reply, yes Ive heard --> the claim. Now I would like to hear about the evidence to support the claim if that is ok. Im finding case reports of otitis media improving days after activator adjustment (Phillips 1992)..no clue how something like THAT gets published. Another (richards et al 1990) didnt account for confounders and DIDNT assess pain. thankyou for your reply!

The literature has been published, and the mechanism is rapid movement of a spinal segment, stimulating the mechanoreceptors in the joint capsule and muscle fibers, creating a barrage of proprioceptive input that occupies the "neural gate" and over-riding the nociceptive input that contributes to pain and muscular hypertonicity, thereby eliciting a more temporally appropriate central integrative state of the neurons and ganglia, resulting in normalization of physiologic status. Now you've heard.

Not true. Stress raises cortisol levels and compromises the proper metabolism of glucose, interfering with the manufacture of functional glycoproteins, resulting in production of poor quality connective tissue, leading to laxity of ligaments, which causes muscles to become tight, reducing circulation, and triggering proliferation of fibroblasts that promote excess collagen production and the conversion of functional contractile tissue to grade-C quality fibrotic tissue, along with spinal stress.

based on the journal of the american medical association JAMA (there trade journal) ( JAMA 1998:279;1200-1205, 1216-1217) "Every day in the United States 290 people die from the adverse reactions to prescription drugs". these are there stats not mine! surely its actually much worse! M.D.'s are great in emergency medicine but not health care.

stress is physical, emotional and chemical which all effect how the body functions. sugar is inflammatory and interferes with the immune system.if you think that poisoning yourself several times per day (poor diet) doesn't effect your health your a quack!
