  • The Willie Horton add came straight from the mind of Lee Atwater and it was just one of many racist adds throughout his career

  • EAGLES: You obviously didn't watch or listen to the vid, nor have you seen the commercials. Bush's ad didn't show Horton (who did indeed commit a felony while on furlough) and all the actors in the commercial were white. So, if you were a Martian looking at the 1988 election for the first time and you saw that commercial, you'd have no idea Horton was black. Nice try though little man.

  • Get your facts straight. You are confusing the Willie Horton ad with the Revolving Door ad. There were TWO ads depicting Dukakis as soft on crime. One of them clearly shows the W.H. mugshot, and has rascist overtones. I remember the ad well, and the controversy. But don't take my word for it. You have a computer, do the research. And anyone who listens to Ann Coulter for FACTS is not playing with a full deck.

  • I think you're fudging the facts ONIAN. You're right, I won't take my word for it, name the organization that ran the commercial with Horton's face in it.

I wouldn't call it racist anyways, what's so racist about showing a picture of a black convicted murderer who committed rape during a furloough? Again, who ran the commercial with Horton's mug shot?

  • @tfentonian So anything depicting a black person in a negative light has racial overtones or just this ad? I don't understand your logic.Did Horton not rape a woman while out on furlough, a policy supported by Dukakis? The fact that Horton was black is incidental but accurate. Unless the ad specifically stated "All black people commit murder and rape," your point is ridiculous.

Both ads are not racist. The only racism is the racism you project onto the ad.

  • Olberbite is a pathological liar

  • I was ready for this, you are correct it was the GOP Governor before that originally implemented this strategy, but Dukakis had a chance given to him by the state legislature to reverse this and he did not.

Coulter's article even goes over this briefly and marvels at Dukakis' stupidity for letting this law stand.

I also had to snicker because most of your rant wasn't even on this subject.

  • If I remember correctly, this furlough program was started during the admin. of the Rep. Gov before Dukakis! He was held responsible because murders happened during his tenure, but if you want to go after people who should be blamed, be my guess! MD's a good, honest man, and for some unknown reason, we rather have corrupt idiots running things! I can still hear Bush railing about MD being some "Harvard yard" this or that! What an idiot and he's responsible for unleashing "W" on us and the world!

  • The facts ARE straight. The independent organization that presented the Horton commercial was not a GHWB campaign commerical nor was it approved by GHWB. But liberals still call it a "Bush campaign ad" as they falsely portray night after night on MSNBC. You talk about facts, but you're twisting facts to promote lies being told daily on MSNBC while your President ignores our troops in Afghanistan to fight his own war on Fox News.

  • In a normal world (campaign finance reform did a lot of damage to free speech in my opinion) an independent entity should be able to run whatever ad they want, unless of course it contains foul lanaguage, nudity, etc.

The Horton ad was effective and correct. Keith is again attempting to rewrite history and surprise, surprise, surprise, here comes the race card.
