hum. An entry level digital leica sounds good, but there are still so many second-hand M8's on the market that it would be difficult to make much cheaper - unless using a mass-produced aps-c sensor and no mechanical shutter. The rangefinder makes for a significant portion of the price, but a cheaper one similar to the CL or CLE woudn't be too bad. In other terms, the missing link between the full-format M9 and the four-thirds.

Could come with a reduced choice of cheap APS lenses (21, 35, 75)?

Yep, It will be wonderful to see an NEX-5 type of 1.5X crop sensor mounted into an R-D1 body and priced within 2K range... or anything with REAL range finder mechanism will do :-)
