  • I finally finished watching the video, my computer is a little slow, and I have to say I love your painting. I also love that Bouguereau copy. I know I didn't spell that right, sorry :-) How do you know what colors WB used? Do you show how to get that Old Masterly look in your DVD's? This is how I want to paint though the subject matter wouldn't be portraits but fantasy art.

  • @SleepyMushroomFairy You did indeed spell that right, and it isn't easy! Bougureau's colors were pretty ordinary, and if you make your color charts you will find them all somewhere on the charts easily. Most of the time the "Old Masterly" look just comes from using quiet colors and applying them just as the old-time painters did. Try making some copies of Old Masters yourself. and by the way, many of the Old Masters painted what what we would call "fantasy art." Check out Waterhouse, for one.

  • Awesome video. I have just subscribed to your channel but haven't looked at your other videos yet so I am sorry if I suggest something you've already done, but could you show us some tips on painting blonde hair? Especially shading it if part of the figure is in shadow.

  • @SleepyMushroomFairy

Hi and thanks for the question. For blonde hair, do the same as I show for the light brown hair, except use yellow ochre for your main color, lightened with a brighter yellow if needed. Streak (blend) in pure white for highest highlights. For the dark areas (shadows), use a dark earth color (umber) as I did but also streak in some violet to balance the yellow, since violet is the opposite of yellow. Experiment! You'll pick it up with practice!

  • Thanks for the compliment. You can paint just like this yourself if you practice at it.

  • Thanks. Glad you found it helpful. Other tutorials are in the works.
