018 - Positive and Negative Feedback Loops

Paul Andersen explains how feedback loops allow living organisms to maintain homeostasis. He uses thermoregulation in mammals to explain how a negative feedback loop functions. He uses fruit ripening to explain how a positive feedback loop functions. He also explains what can happen when a feedback look is altered. Diabetes mellitus is caused by an alteration in the blood glucose feedback loop.

  • this was so helpful!! Can you be my animal phys teacher?

  • lovely way to explain it tat.....negative feedback is juzt dancin around a point and eventually hit ur target....but positive feedback sees it as a sign....tats meant to be broken.....ooooo lovely.... thanks paul!!!.......

  • Thanks, I wish I could use this as a reference :/

  • great sooooo helpful

  • cheers mate very helpful :)

  • Great video! Just a word though: type 2 diabetes does NOT have it's roots in "too much fat," as you mentioned. Moreso, it is the type of fat, and with what type of carb, and how much of that carb is consumed, which influences the onset of type 2. Also, minerals such as magnesium and boron help to regulate insulin secretions. Foods like coconut oil help to increase insulin sensitivity, thus reverse harm effects of (really bad sugars) like high-fructose corn syrup (the leading cause of type 2)...

  • Thank you! I was seriously confused when I looked at what I had to revise for an exam and found positive and negative feedback, but this really helped a lot!

  • So helpful for my studies thanks =)

  • I understand the positive feedback loop but I don't see how it's related to homeostasis?

  • Thank You so much, this vid really helped!
