I wasn't expecting this train to have two extra cars and one extra engine. It's always fun to be surprized!! There was another freight consist down under Black Point Road with no engine on either side. I originally went to Winnocks Neck Road to film Amtrak. Then my Grandmother and I saw a freight so we thought it was waiting for Amtrak to pass so it would get the clear. But that wasn't the case. We wanted to get Amtrak and the freight here but we just got Amtrak. But it was still awesome. Amtrak is Awesome!
Leading was NPCU/Cabbage #90213 and in the middle was P-42 #79 and on the rear was P-42 #109.
Enjoy!!

  • That's weird. I've caught train #686 multiple times, and I've never seen any extra equipment on it. I guess those catches of mine just weren't lucky days. :/ Good catch! :)

  • @trinityct I didn't know this was on it. And I know what its like to have those unlucky days. I do hope you catch one though! Thank you by the way!!!:)

  • Great catch! Lemme guess, train # 686? I caught a set almost identical back in Feb. in West Medford. Also, they usually put extra equipment on that train so they don't have to run an extra train to get it to the shops in Boston.

  • @TH3GR1FF13 Thanks! Your Right, 686! I saw your video that your talking about. I'v heard that before that they just hook on that extra equipment. It makes scense to do that too. I think they come back with the extra duing the night because I caught a Downeaster train with 2 extra cars and a P-42 coming back from Boston. I caught it first going down to Boston when I was in North Berwick when it was hooked on the regular Downeaster train. Sorry if that last part I said doesn't make much sence.

  • It's actually not that rare to see a powerless freight at that spot, I've even seen them leave 1 or 2 engines on to pump air. This year not so often, but last year it was an almost everyday thing. I guess it's to save space at Rigby or something? Nice catches on the Amtraks!
