Venezuelan-born designer Carolina Herrera debuted her countryside chic collection for fall 2008 at New York Fashion week.
Herrera said the collection is about "the ease and the sophistication of the women who are wearing these clothes in the outdoors. But in the same time there is a lot of fantasy here. It's like you can wear them on a weekend in England or in France, a chateau in France, or in New York with your dogs and your horses and all that."
The color palate is "very fall" says Herrera, filled with shades of oatmeal brown and licorice, blue, mustard and lemon drop. Accessories are very important for Herrera this season, as they completed the overall look she wanted to create, she said.
"Well, accessories are important in a collection and everyday. I think that here, the most important are the hats that have all the feathers and the boots. And everything that is an accessory in this collection is very
nice," she said.
Models walked the runway donning fedoras in a range of colors decorated
with ostrich feather plumes, some floating three feet behind the model over the runway.
Herrera layered masculine tweeds, including double faced cashmere,
window pane challis and shetland wools on top of print shirts, vests and riding pants.
For daytime, Herrera included chic ensembles, including a flowing
blouse with patchwork paired with a mustard color patchwork skirt. Other
items included wool capes, tweed vests and velvet riding pants.
Evening dresses were dotted with feathers whether around the shoulders
or cinching the waist adding a dramatic touch.
Textures and fabrics were mixed and matched -- adding drama to more casual styles and lending texture to elegant evening ensembles.
In addition to feather embellishments, other lavish touches included fur vests and jackets and knee high boots.
Herrera's fall 2008 collection embodied the feel of a sophisticated woman who wouldn't hesitate to wear a ball gown to dinner on the farm.
