(from 1981) Slade are an English rock band. The British Hit Singles & Albums stated they were the top UK group of the 1970s. They were the first act to have three singles enter at #1, and all six of the Wolverhampton band's chart-topping stompers were penned by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea. Total UK sales were 6,520,171, and their best selling single, "Merry Xmas Everybody", sold more than 1 million copies worldwide.

The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Music commented that with Holder's powerful vocals and guitarist Dave Hill's equally arresting dress sense, Slade were one of the most successful British chart bands of the 1970s, scoring seventeen consecutive Top 20 hits. They are well known for the deliberate misspelling of their song titles, and for the song "Merry Xmas Everybody" (first released in December 1973), now one of the most iconic Christmas pop songs in the United Kingdom.

  • sorry mate but i have been a slade fan for 39 years, slade had 16 top 20 hits between 1971 an1976 six number ones, three nub twos and two number threes, no other uk act of the period, not t. rex nor David bowie nor Elton john nor any other{ superstar act, enjoyed such consistancy; nor is such consistency feasible today 3 decades after the event, slade remain the only act ever to enter chart at one with consecutive releases, i think thay did have 3 number ones in a row but in total 6 number ones

  • I'm sick of 70-ties

    But I don't want a cure :)

  • This reminds me of the song in the car chase scene in Flame. This is more modern, and more hard-rocking, but the tempo is the same.

  • Great bit of work there Multi70s

    LLTMS!!

  • Legend has it that Nancy was an alcoholic tattooed mad-woman who used to pick fights in the pubs in Wolverhampton town centre in the 1970s...

" 'Why are you looking at me?' - She said.."

I'm not aware that she ever beat up Noddy, but he was certainly attacked by a bouncer in a club in Mid Glamorgan, you can google it.

So, not sure which event this song is about - maybe he mixed the two stories?

  • This i the best slide show I have seen to go with a song

  • @Hedgeweed cheers for that mate keep on rockin

  • @mickydoyle48 Correct! In fact, the bouncer had been hitting girls, even. He then attacked Noddy in a dark corridor, taking him by surprise. 'Twat' is the right word. :)

  • @Hedgeweed well it just goes to say what goes around comes around, cheers for that information mate, got what he deserves,
