  • What is F-spaced?

  • @ondaskate Hi, All of our full-size humbuckers except the X2N® and D Activator-X™ are available in two polepiece spacings. F-spacing refers to the wider of the two spacings. For proper string alignment and balanced output, F-spaced humbuckers should be used in the bridge position on all guitars with string spacing at the bridge of 2.1" (53 mm) or greater. On these guitars, if the nut width is 1-11/16” (43 mm) or greater, F-spaced pickups can be used in the neck position as well.

  • Hey Larry.

I would like your advice, if you're not to busy.

I play Anthrax, Metallica... lots of metal. I have an Epiphone Goth Explorer (mahogany) with EMG HZ H4 and the it sounds terrible. I'm trying to decide what pickups to put in it. I love harmonics and crunch, but also need to be able to play clean. I was looking at the D Activator X and the normal D Activator. What do you think I should get?

  • @soad11dude

The normal D Activator will probably work best. For your guitar, the bridge pickup should be F-spaced.

  • @LarryDiMarzio even if the explorer has a Stopbar Tailpeace?

  • @soad11dude

Bridge pickup spacing is determined by the string spacing at the bridge position. Our F-spacing is 2.01", center-to-center from the first polepiece to the sixth. Standard spacing is 1.90. Measure the actual string spacing on your guitar and determine which one works best.

  • Mr Dimarzio,

I have a 7 string that I want to change the neck pickup on. I really like the evolution neck, but since this isn't available in 7 string, what would you recommend me getting?

  • @LarryDiMarzio Just say it dude. Fender Spaced! There!

  • everyone says that emgs are the best, well why always the best players and best tones come from guys using dimarzios, john petrucci, paul gilbert and so on... dimarzio just kicks ass.

  • @travisforencich They make an Evo-7, but it's recommended for the Bridge. Unless you play as cleanly as Vai, I wouldn't recommend geting an Evolution...SUPER hot pick up. A lot of people like the Liquifire in the neck too... I know I don't work for DiMarzio, but I've heard good things about the Liquifire.

  • @LarryDiMarzio Allrigt, thanks!

  • @LarryDiMarzio Perfect, Thank you very much!
