WIND was a Chicago legacy station on the air at the time of this aircheck for 58 years starting in 1927. They had a mix of music and talk, and latter just all talk. The call letters did NOT stand for the Windy City. WIND transmits from four towers located just south of Gary Indiana. W-INDiana. In 1985 WIND was sold to TMS Inc. and the format went from talk to Hispanic music. The WIND call letters were retained. In 2010 Salem Communications owns WIND with a talk format but bears little resemblance of the former WIND in the 1980's and before. The last owner in 1985 was Westinghouse Inc. These five parts depict the last hour of WIND Westinghouse Broadcasting before signing off the air at 1:03 PM CST December 12, 1985. Some of the talent appearing on this aircheck......Dave Baum, Clark Weber, Eddie Schwartz, Ted Lauderback, Dick Elliot, Johnny Putman & Steve King, Frank Lee, Phil Nolan, Jim Durham, and Howard Miller.
