Hookin chains in the grass 01Cummins vs 79 F250 460 BBF

Buddy with a 79 F250 wanted to hook up with me in his back yard. 460 BBF modded with cam, heads, intake, carb, ignition among other pretty good stuff.

I have a stock Cummins with an Edge COMP box.

finally a fair tug of war and the dodge is not a dually!!!!! they are both 3/4 ton trucks. as I said before the only gas engines that will give a diesel a run for the money are big block v8s!!!!!! That 5.9 cum o part was having a hell of time there but they are torque monsters and the 460 fords are too!!!

my truck wasnt having a hell of a time at all, it was because he had locked differentials and i was running open diffs on each end. Really not a fair tug

I have a 97 F250 with a fuel injected 460. I wanna have a go against the Dodge next!

But then you get to the gearing. The Cummins makes that 505 ft lbs at 1,400 RPM. On the other hand, the Ford makes its 500 at 4,600 RPM. This means that if both trucks are geared so that the tires spin at 1,000 RPM at peak torque and both trucks have the same tires, the Ford will put 2300 ft lbs to the wheels, but the Dodge will only put 707 ft lbs to the wheels. The torquier Cummins makes its power too low, and USABLE torque in the Ford is 3.25x greater, consequently.

@86godsmack Hold on a second, you can't even spell and we're the "pothetic" ones? The '69-71 460s made 365 hp and 500 ft lbs of torque. Given this '79 would only be 250 hp and 400 ft lbs. Is that not enough to spin to you? This '01 Cummins would still be more at 505 ft lbs, but only 245 hp.
