The RAE-1 is a low-cost automatic book scanner designed for scanning medium-sized textbooks. The RAE-1 gently flips the pages of a book and captures the pages with a digital camera at a speed of 360 pages per hour. This project is useful for libraries and schools as it allows for fast digitization of traditional media. Entire books can be scanned with the user only loading and unloading the book.

  • It's pretty noisy. I think a bit of a thoughtful box with sound absorbant

  • I fucking laughed when it started :)

  • Epic fail!

  • I think it scans and cleans - thus it sucks...

  • Rofl the sound this thing makes is hilarious. Sounds like a router bit is about to come down and rip its way through the book.

  • Until it cycled - I thought the first part was promising

Once the pages were separated - I thought something would be walloping them to the right machine gun fashion - at 14,000 pages per hour

  • @okio03 Is that seriously a concern when you're archiving?

  • just a use of nothing and futile machine

  • I doubt a library would want something so loud in their building. I'd say it was a start, but begin again from scratch.
