Ian from perfect poultry let us collect a few eggs to take home with us before giving us some advice on which breeds we should get.

We eventually chose a Light Sussex, which we will eat, a Black Rock, and a Calder Ranger.
He also sold us some feeding equipment.

  • won't the garden smell now?

  • It does smell a little bit, but it is not too bad.

  • If you have a fenced back yard in a temperate or warm region, screw city hall, it is your civic duty to have your own hens. They just need somewhere safe and secure (from mink, racoons etc) to roost at night. Aside from 6 foot kale and waist high tulips, you will have a lot of fun.

  • For such a small area, I would have gotten bantam poulets. They're really small and are better in smaller areas.

As far as eggs, you get around two eggs every three days or so per hen.

  • i love the way that army pants dude just box flogged those chickens like they were somebody's old dirty clothes. uncool.

use effective microbes to kill the chicken smell. just spray down the coop & it works immediately it's a great probiotic as well if you put it in their water. see: scdprobiotics or teraganix. it's fantastically versatile & extremely affordable -one of the most useful products for a garden & a chicken coup & it is ridiculously cheap if you ferment it out, which is very simple.

  • and with my golden laced wyandotte she gives me about 5 or 6 eggs a week and she is 1 year old

  • the light sussex looks like a coumbian wyandotte that is a good meat and egg bird

  • @chickenmen10

If every one had their chickens in the world free ranged, eggs and chicken meat would coast 5 times as much as they do now. It's the reason why egg prices are so cheap.

  • Damn right they do. They deserve a natural environment whether you plan on eating them, collecting eggs, or having them as family friends. No other way is acceptable. To hell with factory farms! Don't give them any money!

  • i had 6 ex-battery hens , 1 got killed buy a fox and the others would fight ALOT , i sold three so now im left with two i realy need a male because im very interested in raising chicks ?so if you know any where in south london please send a message

  • Did the chickens cost a lot of money? I got a price of 90 pounds for two chickens from perfect poultry in Guildford! I got them from a place in Leatherhead instead and it only cost 25 pounds! We got a Light Sussex and a Rhode Island Red hybrid. Love the videos though!
