@SWASDN This is incorrect. The song was written by Joseph M. Scriven as a poem to comfort his ill mother who was living in Ireland while he was in Canada.

Sang this since I was a little girl. Now in my 50's I still sing this song with assurance that if I carry everything to God in prayer, He's listens, understands, and gives me hope.

Its interesting the man who wrote this song was a preacher and during an evening service a man came in and told him his house burnt down and his wife and children died. As he walked through the burnt out ruins of his home and family this song came to him.
