This is part one of my Photoshop Coloring Tutorial. It teaches you how to separate your ink lines from the background.

  • I don't get something. Ok, you separate the lineart from the background, for what purpose exactly? Wouldn't it be easier to just make a new layer in multiply and be done with it? I mean no offense but I don't see the point of all that, please tell me what's the difference exactly.

  • @mimikawaii7386 You can do it the way you say, and it is easier to do. However, the way I do it allows you to color the lines themselves if you should choose to, or change them in any way you like since they are an isolated part of the image. I haven't figured out a way to color the ink lines with any blending mode active without affecting the image in a negative way. It's more of a useful tip for anyone who wants to make use of it, but it's not required.

  • @maglot I see. Also I don't use ink, I work directly in the computer and do the lineart on it aswell. Do you delete the lineart after you paint, btw?

  • @mimikawaii7386 Depends on the picture. I don't, most of the time, since I go for a comic-book style.

  • Thank you for the tutorial, this looks like the best colouring tutorial for beginners.

I'd like to ask a question.Somehow in the part where we get rid of our "Background"(4:14), and when I choose "white" from the "Fill" section, my artwork completely dissapears, and there is no copy of artwork I could find in layer 1.Why is taht so.Could you please help? Thanks

  • @cksunar If you didn't fill Layer 1 with black while the selection is on the screen, then you won't have anything there. If you can't figure it out, move your drawing layer to the top and set it's blending mode to Multiply and just have all your color layers beneath it instead.
