Mennään tanssimaan (Wonderful Tonight, Eric Clapton cover) - Maggie

"Wonderful Tonight" is a song written by Eric Clapton in 1977 and first released in the "Slowhand" album.
This song has been covered (at least) by: Butch Baker, David Kersh, Don Williams, Damage, Warren Hill.

We rewrote the lyrics in Finnish from woman's perspective, about a trip to a country dance pavillion in the summertime - a great local tradition.

Inaccurate tranlation from English to Finnish to English:
"A warm Saturday night, sun is still shining,
You search for dancing shoes, and your Hawaiian shirt.
You ask as you always do: Are my fancy pants ok?
And I say: Yes, my darling, you are always ok.

There is some way to go, and we listen to radio
When we get there, band is has just begun
You ask as you always do: Shall we now go to dance?
And I say: Yes, my darling, I don't want not lose this chance.

I feel it in my neck when others watch - when you stare at me
But I know just like you know that then you think of me
- and love me too.

When we came back to our home, summer night is still warm
Your Hawaiian shirt is sweating, your toes feel the pain.
You are not Fred Astaire, not the slowhand Clapton,
But I say to you: You dance like all should do.
Then I hear: When we go dancing again?"

Finnish lyrics:
Lämmin lauantai-ilta, vielä aurinko paistaa,
Sä kesäkenkäsi etsit, hawaijipaitasi stailaat.
Sä kysyt kuin aina: "Onko prässit suorassa?"
Mä vastaan: "Kyllä - olet tanssikunnossa."

On tansseihin matkaa, iskelmiä kuunnellaan.
Kun perille päästiin, bändi alkaa soittamaan.
Sä kysyt kuin aina: "Joko mennään tanssimaan?"
Mä vastaan: Kyllä - mennään heti vaan."

Tunnen kuinka meitä katseet seuraa - mua salaa vilkuilet.

Vielä kotiin kun tultiin, kesäyö lämmittää.

Kuulla saan: "Milloin mennään uudestaan?"
