I see what your saying, expecially on a call not seen often. Should the ump ignore it? As for a "benefit", no one gets the benefit, that would be unfairly officiating for one team. For me I have to CLEARLY see the batters foot outside the box, on the ground when making contact. I would absolutely call it. On the video it looks like the batters foot was out there. Since this umpire was right there, we should give HIM the benefit. A tough call not seen often, doesnt mean it was the wrong call.

True feet ON the lines is not out of the box. But there is no way from this video you can tell that his feet were on the line. But, from this view it looks like the umpire had cause to make this call. Since he had the best view, he gets the benefit.

you can see he was way out of the box when he touched it.... i am not saying i can see the lines because i can't but it looks like he started mid box and took a nice step forward as he touched it.

Right call... but he's gotta make it known LOUDLY! Call dead ball immedately, and if he has to sell the call, then sell the call. But the way he made the call leaves some room to question it. The front foot was in front of home plate when contact is made, batter is out of the box, and is therefore out.

great call blue! it's nice to see someone else know how to call this!

Look how fat the umps butt is!!!!!!

Even if there was a box, I doubt if he was out of it.

ok call. looks like he stepped out of the box during contact so he's out for that
-
maybe if he could see the plate he could make a good call

Wrong rule, mark1954mark. 7-3-1 covers delaying the game by leaving the batters box. (c) is one of the exceptions where, if the batter misses or pulls the bat back, he is not penalized for delay. If he makes CONTACT 7-3-2 applies: "A batter shall not hit the ball fair or foul while either foot is touching the ground completely outside the lines of the batter's box or touching home plate." Penalty: the ball becomes dead immediately and the batter is out. Notice that there are no exceptions.
