If your cat is well fed and allowed to go both indoors and outdoors, he is also probably within an acre of your house. Cats have territories that they mark with their scents to let other cats know that this land is already taken. They use urine and scent from their scent glands to mark their territory. They also scratch trees as a visual mark. A well fed, indoor/outdoor cat has a territory of an acre or less. He wont be as scared of the outdoors as the indoor cat, but he still may be in hiding because hes sick or injured or scared. If your house has stairs, search under the stairs and under the porch. You may have to crawl around the area if hes hiding in the darkness. Use a flashlight.
Likewise, check the back of the house if you have a basement crawl space or any basement window areas.
Look in piles of leaves and any debris near your house. Look around the garbage cans.
If you have any brush around your house, areas of thick plants and tall grass, check those areas very carefully. Look behind tall plants and trees, especially those growing near your house. Move the tall grass around. He is more likely to be in there than in open areas like lawns. Remember he will not necessarily come as you call his name.
