This video comparison between the original and the newly restored Apollo 11 video shows Buzz Aldrin as he follows Neil Armstrong down the lunar module ladder.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11, NASA released partially restored video of a series of 15 memorable moments from the July 20 moonwalk. The source material for the restoration project is the best of the available broadcast-format video. Lowry Digital, Burbank, Calif., is significantly enhancing the video using the company’s proprietary software technology and other restoration techniques. The video is part of a larger restoration project that will be completed in September and provide a newly restored high definition video of the entire Apollo 11 moonwalk. The completed restoration will provide the public with the highest quality video of this historic event.

  • orignal video looks much better then new one

  • Pause the video about 2 seconds in. The original is about 50x clearer than the "restoration". Is this a joke? The restoration looks like a blurry mess. All the detail from the suit is gone. All the detail from the moon surface is gone. Lame.

  • @insanecat1 Those aren't stars...

  • why are there stars at 0:02?? the moons atmosphere cant illuminate the stars that bright >.> god nasa is RETARTED

  • @muckletoon, sure ! AND WITH A LOT OF OTHER ERRORS IN THEMOON HOAX we can believe securely= any man never went to moon. (Not at least went ahead of 400 km, where begins the mortal space radiation and temperature of 150° C). Who thinks this is crazy, research, dont write shit for me

  • All is a big fake...

  • Fake

  • although the restoration resolved the flickering issue the archive shots have much more clarity. look for example at the tracks under the lander, they look much clearer than in the restored video. maybe it's a work in progress but still, i don't get it

  • Looks like someone painted out picture static frame by frame. Stupid solution. Poor results. We'll see how the final looks...

  • @WillStriveHarder I would've thought they teach you about gravity in the Philippine State College Of Aeronautics.....

  • @visions84 and everyone who says that the original is better: Watch it in HD. They removed all the single-frame specks, adjusted the brightness and contrast, and made quite a few other minute adjustments. They uploaded it in 720p for a reason...
