Apocalypse - The Second World War - Episode 3 - Shock
This six-part series tells the epic story of World War II, providing an insight into the experiences of the millions of soldiers who fought across countries and continents, and the moving stories of the millions of civilians who saw their homes destroyed and lives disrupted by the cataclysm of war.

Using original footage, including home movies, from World War II, Apocalypse: The Second World War presents a chilling and sometimes confronting look at the horrors of the war. The footage has been transformed into colour using digital techniques, giving a new perspective on one of the most significant events of the last century.

Episode 3: Shock

The Germans now occupy several capital cities in Europe. German soldiers holiday in Paris while Polish prisoners and Jews are forced into slave labour to complete Nazi building projects. The Afrika Korps fry eggs on the surfaces of their tanks in the blistering desert of North Africa. Meanwhile, in the Soviet Union, German soldiers struggle towards Moscow in the brutal Russian winter. Suffering from dysentery and typhus and ill-equipped, they are finally pushed back by the Red Army. Two days after Hitler's first defeat, Japan launches a surprise attack on the US at Pearl Harbour.

Could we focus on the parents who actually understand what the radio is saying please? Rose is unable to understand the things going on in the world.

If there's something I hate about this series is how they aim for cheap sympathy by talking about Rose. Rose isn't brave, she's a child. She has no clue what's going on around her. Soldiers who are fully aware of their predicament and risk death are brave.

i have to correct my self, rommel WAS a nazi. he was a member of the nazi party. and he did cammand the beglight battalion which was a larger part of the beglight cammando which was HITLER'S close 8 man escort the SS, that guarded Hitler around the clock.

So much bullshit made up propaganda against the Germans. This series doesn't mention the Danzing Massacre in which thousands of ethnic Germans were butchered by the poles, neither does it mention the 60 million people Stalin butchered, and the fact that Hitler invaded Soviet Union because Stalin was building up his forces on the border with Germany.

@staples1962 The m60 isnt in use in the U.S. army for quite a while now it was replaced by the m240 which also has the smaller 5.56 version or the m249 SAW.Also really rommel wasnt a Nazi.

@anfony22 Not quite. The Russian roads were not ready for transport till the middle of June. The lost 3 weeks was, as AJP Taylor states, a myth which allowed the German generals to excuse their defeat by the Soviets. That's the real history on that.
