white man feeling his privileged position threatened...

@AtheosRecords Africa is a diverse continent of varies ethic and racial mixes and does not equate with the black race. All of the human race evolved out of Africa. Neither does race mean culture. Black people encompass a huge range of back grounds and cultures. We must never teach black (or white) children as units. Children are unique individuals. To consider individuals nothing, apart from their group, their race, their ethnicity is at the very core of racial supremacy.

@bryarc27 consider what your saying, "If they want to learn about African culture, music, novels etc. then their parents should teach them." they don't know their own history because it was stolen from them. At least you know you are south american. do you know how difficult it is to trace back an a african-americans ancestry? I understand your anger but perhaps if you can just see it from a different perspective. Also see what is taught in the existing school system about blacks. Peace & Love

I'm half african, and let me tell you this afrocentric thing is a whole lot of crapola.
-
@bryarc27 how will their parents teach them? they don't know either.neither did their parents, nor the ones before them.your parents taught you about you culture and history cause they didn't lose it.the only history we learn is that we were slaves.

@Sivels And your mom is fat.

Yes, maybe in your case.
-
@hcampbell85 no, irrationality and stupidity and ignorance is the problem.
What is African culture anyway? Africa is a continent consisting of many nations with differing cultures. What about race? Black is not a culture or a country? Black people come from all parts of the globe. They relate to many different cultures or perhaps none. What do they have in common apart from race? What is it about them that requires teaching them as a unit? The TDSB can't even figure out whether the schools should be about race or culture. The whole notion is racist, divisive and silly.

In high school the only thing I learned about non-european people from the history lessons was that they were all "savages" and "hunters" and when the settlers came they built a community.
They teach how Christopher Columbus was a "great discoverer" of the Carribbean and America. How Shakesphere's work is some of "the most important plays in the world". They didn't teach me a damn thing about Native land or Africa or Asia.
This is a band-aid solution, but it's gonna do more help than harm.
