I didn't know Al Pacino was a kick-ass drummer.

FABULOUS !!!

I absolutely LOVE this clip. Here is 66 year old Duke Ellington in 1965, doing in 2 minutes what a lot of these "musicians" today can't do in 2 YEARS!

@PastorGCS - I taught you well! LOL!

The drummer, Louis Bellson, was married to Pearl Bailey for many years.
A bit of trivia: Pearl Bailey earned a college degree from GEORGETOWN(my alma mater), after she was 50.

That is indeed Paul Gonsalves on ts (who can mistake that sound?) along with Duke's regular crew. Louie Bellson was back with the band for a while in 1965-66. This rare chart is a treat to hear. Perhaps Duke never played it again.

who is the sax player at 1:19. I'm sure it's not paul gonsalves, he looks so different from his pictures in google images.

The trio sounds VERY 30´s. GREAT!
LOL, never heard that brilliant hell of an arrangement. Awesome! BTW, there's no video from Newport 1956, but a very low-priced CD twofer from CBS with the whole affair in real stereo, not the fake sound you can hear on the LP.
