  • The Red Army do to vocal music the same as the Royal Marines do to military band music. They are the best. Thanks.

  • The singer is excellent. The best rendition imo.

  • a fantastic rendering of this magnificent piece of music

  • @cultrevolution My father was there on business and spoke fluent Russian. As it was told to me, Stenka Rasin was a Ukrainian folk song, or more nearly, a Cossack song about a Ukranian folk hero who battled Russians. I'd agree that banning it was folly - but stiil, tens of millions perished for far less than singing a song. In fact, Kruschev understood his malignant perfidy. Sadly, useful idiots in the U.S., ( and elsewhere ), still make apologia for Stlain - while he laughs at them from hell.

  • @ChynaRider Hi! It's ridiculous to hear someone had managed to enter the USSR as a tourist in 70's. But you're not right about Stalin's banning. It's a sort of a drinking song in Russia, we used to sing it all together on parties. Nobody could ever ban it. :) Just don't give a damn about many Western stories about Stalin. Most of them were invented in CIA labs as anti-Stalin propaganda was one of their tools to destroy USSR, the main rival on their way to nowadays global dictatorship

  • On or about '74 my father returned from a trip tot he USSR and brought home with im an LP, ( turned out to be a Dtuch import ), of "Russin Folk Music" performed by the Red Army Choir. This song brought us to tears. Played the grooves off it. This is the exact recording. Thanks for posting this. Stalin was wise fear this song - probably why he banned it.

  • Incredibly! Fantastic!!
