@LambdaLuv You would tune your conga every time you play it because you should loosen the skins ( untune it) after every session. If they're real hide and not synthetic, you want to preserve them by not keeping them in constant tension. If you don't loosen them you'll keep stretching em out more and more just to keep em tuned.

Great tuning technique. I love my LP Congas but I changed the heads to the newer LP Tri-Center Synthetic Head. No need to De-Tune these and they sound like a hide head but without all the complications of tuning and detuning.

i would have to agree with mod gyver, you could at least do a star pattern as long as you can keep track to help preserve the drum
