And as I heard the story, Chris Barber heard through word of mouth that Lonnie was a good banjo player, although in reality he had never played one when Barber asked him to join the band. But he bought one and bluffed his way through the audition.

Strangely enough, I learned to love Trad Jazz through my interest in Lonnie Donegan back in the 50s. Donegan played banjo in the Chris Barber Jazz Band.
