Bhojpur Shiva Linga Temple, near Bhopal India - 10th century

This 10th Century temple was built during the reign of Raja Bhoj who ruled large parts of what is now Madhya Pradesh, the "middle" province of India. It is located 8kms from Ratanpur and about 25 kms from Bhopal, India. The temple is considered to have never been finished. One of the still shots early in the film shows the remains of the end of a stone causeway that was used to bring in the massive stone pieces that were used to build the temple. The temple opens to the West and as the camera pans you may see the causeway appearing in the distance just to the right of the entrance stairs, now with some guest houses on top of it. From Google earth you can clearly see what looks like remains of the causeway continuing on the other side of the river as well. You can also see another huge section of causeway with the modern road going over it. In the movie it is out of sight beyond the large stone hill across the river from the guest houses.

The temple contains the largest Shiva Linga + Pedestal in the world. Offerings are not made to the inaccessible linga but in the two small pavilions just outside the entrance.

Damage to the top edges of the temple has been repaired on the North and South sides. Scaffolding for repair of the Eastern wall is seen in some of the still photos.
