I don't think he's saying "useless" as in "meaningless". I'm pretty sure "useless" is referring to marketability for jobs, in which case yes: a B.A. in English is pretty useless. Take it from someone with a B.A. in English (not to imply I regret it, because I don't).

A B.A. alone can get copywriting/editing jobs, which pay little and are extremely competitive. However, when combined with a master's degree (like education or library science) or a PHD, it is more useful.

I got made fun of back in 1997 when when I was in middle school. I wasn't wearing any underwear while I was changing in the locker room. Some other students noticed. I don't care though. More people should go commando! It's great! I still do it every once in a while to this day and I AM NOT ASHAMED! IT IS TIME FOR AN UNDERWEAR FREE REVOLUTION!
