HEADLINE: Logan Man Who Killed Robber Free On 40,000 Dollar Bond

Supporters of a murder suspect chanted outside the Logan County Courthouse shouts of "honk your horn for Jesse." Some of the signs to free Jesus "Jesse" Canul were outdated by the time 30 gun rights supporters and friends showed up at the courthouse. Some were unaware the Logan murder suspect had been released on bond and his expected preliminary hearing rescheduled.

Kimberley Bryant posted property to free him. The Logan woman said it was " because I believe he did the only thing he could do in the circumstances he was given. "

Police said that security video shows David Abbott mugging Canul in the Walmart parking lot and shows Canul shooting him in the back from about a dozen feet away. An autopsy showed that .22 caliber bullet ended up lodged in Abbott's chest.

Cops say scissors found at the scene were used by someone to cut away the victim's clothing to give first aid, but not in the robbery. The " sharp " object Canul felt placed against his neck was a key-- although he may not have known it. Police said Abbott is seen casing potential robbery victims in the store service check cashing area and that he dropped Canul's wallet when he fled wounded back into the store.

Rally organizer and co-author of the state defense of castle law Larry Rogers of Omar said: "I hate to see anybody lose their life, but I think Jesse was justified in doing what he had to do."

Rogers said gun rights advocates across America are taking an interest in this case that appears to stretch the limits of self-defense. Canul's preliminary hearing is now set for September 21, 2011.

  • Honk!!!

  • The problem is we do realize he was released...but he is not free. Home confinement is not freedom. Nor is it a drop of charges. We want true freedom for Jesse...not a conviction before a trial has even been set.

  • Love It !!!!!! Great job Logan !!!!
