The Deathgate Cycle could have been a true masterpiece, possibly toppling even the almighty Dragonlance, if Weis and Hickman didn't screw up the last three books in the series. I consider Serpent Mage their best single book, and Haplo is the awesomest character they ever created, the incarnation of badass. So how could they have ruined Hand of Chaos??? Why did they reduce Alfred, who had so much potential as the other protagonist, into a bumbling oaf who wasn't even featured in the game??

If more games were made from books, like this one, instead of movies, the games business would be much better and bigger. But because the games business follows the movie business, game are too expensive to make, 89% of releases lose money and the industry could well die because of it.

I love the Death Gate Cycle. I've only read Dragon Wing, but I own Elven Star and Fire Sea and I'll read them very soon.

To all of you who know the "Death Gate" relatively well, especially those who read the book or at least played the game. Don't you think this story is a great material for an awesome movie, perhaps even a series of 7 movies? I know "Death Gate" isn't half as popular as "Lord of the rings" or "Harry Potter" and it's a real pity that it's almost forgotten and no movie producer/director is interested in this great fantasy tale. Personally I think such a movie would OVERSHADOW "Harry Potter" films.
