There is a clear difference between a job and work. Work is what you do @ a job, but you can still work without having a job. For example, when we complete houseWORK, we don't have a job but were still doing work, just not getting paid.
I think the point he's getting at is we should do our work on earth i.e. working our purpose rather than just working at a job, which for most is dead-end.
