As someone coming to terms with their own past,these lyrics really did send me to tears.All i can really say is that at the time they made me feel a little better about everything.Wish we could've been there for you the way you tried to be for all of us.The quiet guy in bar,with more problems and fears than he cared to say outrightly.Hope you found the peace life never gave you.

This song has literally sent me to tears before. Yet, at the same time, makes me so happy. There's just something about Elliott repeating "AbuuUUUUsed" that's chilling. Goosebumps every time.

@done35start I think this song is about Elliott trying to make excuses for what he went through as a child. It's common in victims of abuse (and I know plenty), you put the blame on yourself because it happened at a young enough age where you were never psychologically allowed to interpret it any other way than "why?". And it doesn't go away with time.
