@EdMahoney19 Alvin Plantinga is who you want to research on that.

Logical positivisms mom is a whore.

There is confusion regarding Quine on accepting both physicalism and abstractions--abstractions exist as ideas, which in turn are contained within thoughts, and thoughts are created by synapses in the brain--hence, there is no contradiction other than linguistic muddling.

I consider Quine one of the greatest modern philosophers I've read but his position concerning abstractions while embracing materialism is wholly unsatisfactory and in my opinion untenable

This analytic philosophy would be a terrific tool for Christian apologetics. It clears up lot's of muddled thinking. Ian Ramsey seems to be the only one who recognizes this.

I was hoping to hear what I'd consider the most interesting question to Quine viz. his ontological relativism and the notion of holism when it comes to meaning. Quine doesn't appear to me to ditch the notion of Truth, but yet he talks about "true" as something relative to the center of our "web of beliefs" (or "force field"). I've no idea how he reconciles the two, what I 'd consider mutually exclusive, positions. To me, either be a relativist or explain how Truth transcends "web of beliefs

i guess i should. i've actually looked into him with slightly more depth since my comment and it makes more sense.

quine uses science in a very broad sense. he views philosophy as abstract, but continous with science. you should definitly read some of his work!

yes he is so great
i wish he s still alive so i can take his course...

i realyl don't get quine. he talks about how science answers several philosophical questions. i really don't see what you can gain from reading him that you can't gain from looking into the scientific inquiery that he talks about first hand.
whereas the other videos are philosophers talking about other philosophers, here magee gets to directly interrogate the Man himself.
quite socratic.
