If nothing else (though there was plenty "else") Bernstein was a great educator. Thanks for putting this up!

If I listened to music like this when I was a child, I would definitely be frightened and have nightmares for days...

Fascinating for so many different reasons: as a historical record of Bernstein young and viogorous and the NYPO forever fixed in 1960 amber (I suppose many of these principal players may be remembered by their pupils 52 years later?). Mahler in 1960 may not have been unknown but not as well known as today. A fascinating exposition of Mahler (I never realised he never wrote Opera or chamber music) and the dichotomies within the man. Thank you for posting and thank God this wasn't wiped!

@classiccandle27 Cheesy? This was the sixties. It was probably the era of the end of sincerity. Cheesy is epitomized by the current climate.

Bernstein was possibly the one most responsible for bringing the music of Mahler into the mainstream. One amazing human being introducing us to the music of another amazing human being.

@Giarola77 He's talking about Bernstein talking about Mahler, smart one.

Is there anybody watching this who was there, at this concert? If so, tell us your impressions

@Giarola77 Bernstein meant it was Mahler's 100th bday party. :)
Mahler 1860-1911
"It's his 100th birthday, so we're having this looong birthday party for him~ any why don't you enjoy this celebration with us!"
...how cheesy lol
All hail Mahler!
