I agree. After recently having to translate and perform a couple of songs (my first time mind you), the translation is certainly not word for word. Auslan is a totally separate language from English with a different way of conveying the message. Love it!
Maybe the reason you're struggling to understand the signing is because you're not used to seeing such strong Ausan. Hearing students who study Auslan usually sign in a very English way, ie. following closer English word order. It can be hard to let go of our strong English grammatical rules.
Signed singing is hard because you aren't signing the individual words; you're trying to accurately convey the message from one language to another. English & Auslan are very different languages.
i know some auslan and i was just wondering why i cant recognise what you are saying :S
i dont doubt that you are correct im just wondering how come i cant understand, any idea? i have been told that it depends how u were taught auslan and that everyone signs differantly could this be the reason i can understand?
Thanx for posting this. Great job & great practice for me. I love that I can sit here and replay it over and over again and understand more each time. I would like to be an interpreter in the future... it's a work in progress.....
