Several wild hawks filmed on 08.02.29 after an ice storm, which had lasted several days. The hawks were hungry.
Shows a good close-up of what appears to be a Cooper's hawk eating prey. Hawk was so hungry that traffic didn't bother it.
Also shows several Red-tailed hawks hunting cardinals, woodpeckers, and starlings. They perched in the trees near the songbirds and watched. Every once in a while they swooped after the birds. When the hawks swooped down from the tree, the birds instantly disappeared.
Whitetail deer occasionally looked up to watch the scene.
**The red tailed hawk, Buteo jamaicensis, is a large powerful bird. It can weigh around 2-4 lbs. and has almost a six foot wingspan. They have a sharp, strong, powerful beak and curved talons. They tear prey apart with their beaks. The red tails of these hawks showed up several times.
**The Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii) is average in size and distributed from southern Canada to northern Mexico. An average females weigh over a pound and has a wingspan of almost a yard.
Liked the video but it moved to quickly to the next scene.
