Founded in Chicago in 2001, LAVA -- improvisational dance performance collective -- includes Charles Campbell, Stefanie Cohen, Carl Grimm, Erica Hagen, Mark Koenig, and Luv Seamon, (who span four US time zones, living respectively in Olympia, WA, Ann Arbor, MI, Portland, OR, NYC, NY, Santa Fe, NM and Chicago, IL). They have performed throughout the United States, on their own and in collaboration with a wide range of movement, sound, textual, and vocal artists, including Touchmonkey of Portland, OR, Louise Cloutier of Chicago and Rima Miller, of Santa Fe, NM. They have been featured artists in an annual series of improvisational performances at Purdue University in Indiana, and their repertoire includes works of tightly composed improvisation as well as dynamic, edgy, open-ended scores. LAVA has produced two works of dance on video, including 2006's Hallway, and 2007's Groundwater, filmed in Portland, Oregon.
