They reached the outer fence of the castle mid-morning just as Joe had predicted. The sun glittered off his face as he felt the cool of the white brick wall against his back as Demi lay resting beside him. He really had done it, gotten the princess of his land back home safely without incident, well not a big incident anyway. He smiled gleefully, imanging sticking his tongue out toward his father for all the times he doubted him as a child, chiming in everytime Joe turned around that he was a worthless piece of trash and was not going anywhere in life.

"Joesph why are you making those awful faces?"

"It's nothing."

Demi shrugged,"When can I go in," She said in her best crisp lady like voice, gesturing to her home which Joe had so rudely kept her from entering as soon as they reached the grounds.

"Until I know it's safe," He replied simply.

Snorting, Demi pushed her body up into a sitting position,"With over 42 guards on the ground at all time Joesph my home is safe believe me."

"Take it from someone who has lived on the streets most of his life princess, not everything is what it seems and there is always danger somewhere around the corner."

Demi snorted,"Thanks for your line of logic Joesph, but I don't think your as wise as me considering I'm 24 and your what 19, 20?"

"21," Joe muttered in annoyance.

"My point exactly."

Irritated by Demi's crap, Joe shrugged and got up walking back toward the forest.

"Where are you going," Demi called after him.

"If you don't need my help that bad, than I am leaving and getting on with my life."

Demi huffed,"Fine see if I need you," she rose slowly and stomped toward the castle.

Without a second thought Joe walked back toward the path that lead to the forest.

"Halt stranger," A stern voice suddenly broke after twenty mintues of walking.

Joe turned to see a full-armored castle guard staring at him sternly,"Just talking a stroll through the forest mate," He replied casually.

By the look on the guard's face however, he didn't buy it,"The princess has just been returned to the castle after two weeks ago her chaperone turned up dead, and not twenty mintues later here you are, very strange eh?"

Seeing the man's thoughts that he was the one that kidnapped Demi, Joe tried to keep the nervous tremble out of his voice,"What are you implying."

The guard smiled a bone chilling smile as more men lined up behind him,"Boy's me' think the captin is going to be getty with reward since we found the princess's kidnapper."

Joe stuttered as the last words he heard were "lock the bastard in the hold" before everything went black.
